More visible and safer in winter

We know that cycling safety is always a sensitive issue and, unfortunately, always very topical. NORTHWAVE, in addition to developing and producing footwear and clothing with very high performance and design always in line with the needs of consumers, does not neglect safety. As? By studying the graphics and materials that, in addition to being attractive, make the cyclist more visible to other vehicles, even in poor visibility conditions.

Safety first. The version of the Celsius XC Arctic GTX with reflective materials is the choice for bikers who, in addition to performance, want to increase their visibility and safety even on days of poor visibility. The new Celsius, with the Gore-Tex membrane, is decidedly warm and comfortable. The new Easyfit Climaflex collar combines the extreme flexibility of the Gore-Tex membrane with the high thermal insulation of neoprene, for greater mobility and protection. Power transmission is given by the Jaws carbon-reinforced sole with a stiffness index of 8.0 and is characterized by a natural rubber that offers extreme grip on any surface. The upper has a construction that wraps the foot without any pressure point, helping to transfer every watt of power, eliminating the dispersion of energy, also the TPU reinforcements ensure strategic 360° protection along the entire upper. The SLW2 closure system guarantees an easy and uniform tightening, the only one with a gradual release that allows a millimeter adjustment of the shoe quickly and intuitively. The positioning of the heel is made possible by an anatomical shape and a solid thermoformed reinforcement, in addition to the Arctic 4Layer insole made with Eva + Aluminum + Eva + Pile, which guarantees excellent thermal insulation. Ice on the roads.

GU EMERCOM of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan recommends:

In fog:

Fans of outdoor activities are advised to have good communication equipment and navigation devices with them.

Fog is a serious hazard to all road users.

Drivers should increase the distance between cars, avoid sudden braking. If it is necessary to stop, the speed must be reduced gradually. When braking, press the brake pedal several times, thereby giving a signal to warn drivers of vehicles that are moving behind you. It is necessary to pay attention to the technical condition of the car, especially the brake system, and the condition of the tires. All optics must be in working order. Use a high visibility vest at stops.

Pedestrians are advised to:

1. Be extremely careful when crossing streets and roads;

2. Cross the street only at the designated pedestrian crossing;

3. To cross the carriageway, use, if possible, only overground or underground pedestrian crossings;

4. Do not cross the track in front of a moving vehicle;

5. Move only towards the traffic flow;

6. Wear a high visibility vest or attach reflective tapes to clothing.

With ice:

Walk carefully, slowly, step on the entire sole, taking into account the unevenness of the surface. Elderly people are advised to use a rubber-tipped cane or a special stick with pointed spikes. If you slip, sit down to lower your fall.

Pedestrians are advised to cross the street only at the marked pedestrian crossing. Do not cross the road in front of a moving vehicle, because due to the slippery road surface, the braking distance of the car is significantly increased. Move only towards the traffic flow. Use reflective elements on clothing.

For drivers:

1. When driving a car in these conditions, refuse unnecessary rearrangements, overtaking, advancing;

2. Pay attention to the technical condition of the car, especially the brake system, the condition of the tires;

3. Avoid sudden braking, if necessary to stop, the speed must be reduced smoothly;

4. You should press the brake pedal several times, thereby giving a signal warning the drivers of cars that are moving behind you;

5. All optics must be in working order;

6. Drive at a speed that ensures safety in busy areas, near schools, at intersections and bridges, and on curves and downhills.

Pedestrians are advised to:

1. Be extremely careful when crossing streets and roads;

2. Cross the street only at the designated pedestrian crossing, remember that due to insufficient visibility and the slippery road surface, the driver needs more time to stop the vehicle;

3. To cross the carriageway, use, if possible, only overground or underground pedestrian crossings;

4. Do not cross the road in front of a moving vehicle;

5. Move only towards the traffic flow.

Lovers of winter fishing are reminded of the need to comply with safety rules

Winter ice beckons avid fishermen. They can't wait to drill a hole and catch a fish. However, ice is not the only threat. Trying to warm up, amateur anglers sometimes get burned when using gas equipment, and sometimes they are poisoned to death by carbon monoxide in a tent, as happened recently on Lake Uelgi in the Kunashak region.

Rescuers remind fishermen of the rules for safe winter fishing. Going for a catch, you need to take with you a fully charged mobile phone and a flashlight, a reflective vest, 2-3 hand flares, a compass. It is better to go fishing not alone, but with a friend who has been to this reservoir more than once and knows the area well. But it is better not to take children with you on a fishing trip. It's also best to stay close to the main group of fishermen on the ice. Before using gas heating equipment, it is important to ensure that it is working properly, and you also need to regularly ventilate the tent.

If the weather or health has worsened, it is important to immediately leave the pond or call for help by phone 112. If you happen to get lost, it is more correct to stay on the ice, not to climb into the reeds.

Rules and prohibitions From helmet to speed

To drive the scooter you must be at least 14 years old. A helmet is mandatory for the Under 18s. Scooters must be equipped with a bell. Animals cannot be driven or pulled by other vehicles. You cannot carry other people, objects, animals, or tow yourself. The Highway Code must be observed: stop at red, respect the one-way streets, facilitate the transit of emergency vehicles.

If present, cycle paths are to be preferred. The maximum speed allowed, in the absence of cycle paths, is 25km. It is forbidden to drive on urban roads with a speed limit greater than 50km. It is forbidden to circulate on preferential roads, under the arcades, and on the sidewalks. In pedestrian areas, the limit is 6km.

The use of the mobile phone is allowed only with a headset, provided that the use of both hands is free. Finally, for transit at night, a reflective safety vest and front and rear lighting are required.

What do you need to have on your bike? Mandatory bicycle equipment

If we decide to use a bicycle on public roads, we must take care of the equipment of the two-wheeler. The regulations clearly define what we must have on the bike if we want to ride it on the streets.

An interesting fact is that the regulations do not require cyclists to wear a protective helmet while riding. The rider's equipment is not in any way specified by law. However, the Code clearly defines the elements with which a bicycle must be equipped.

Every two-wheeler traveling on public roads should be equipped with:

at least one effective brake;

sound signal with non-piercing sound;

at the front - at least one white or selective yellow position lamp;

at the rear - at least one red reflex reflector not shaped like a triangle;

a reflective vest;

at least one red position lamp.

If we only ride a bike during the day, we do not need to install additional lighting. The regulations allow driving without parking lights if the cyclist is only moving during the day. In the absence of any of the mandatory equipment, the bicycle driver must take into account a fine from 20 to even 500 zlotys.

Safer in a helmet

Although cyclists do not need to wear protective helmets, it is better to equip yourself with one for your safety. Even during a minor bump at low speed, the cyclist is exposed to danger and serious injuries. The driver of the car is protected by the body and airbags, motorcyclists also use helmets and specialist protective clothing on the road. However, the cyclist is not protected by anything. Therefore, it is better to travel with a helmet for your good.

Unique Christmas trees for preschoolers

Children from Kindergarten No. 4 and 15 in Sieradz received unique reflective Christmas trees. The kids, together with the policemen and an employee of the Sieradz WORD, decorated Christmas trees with them. Reflective elements appeared instead of baubles.

As every year, the policemen of the Sieradz headquarters remember about the youngest inhabitants of our region. The Santa Claus joint patrol of policemen and WORD employees visited preschoolers. However, Mikołaj did not move in a sleigh, but in a police car. Thanks to the support of the Sieradz branch of the Provincial Road Traffic Center, children received gifts in the form of reflective vests and key rings.

The head of the road traffic department, subinsp. Grzegorz Będkowski, police preventive young asp. Bożena Grobelna and Tomasz Olejnik from the Sieradz WORD. It was also a good opportunity to popularize the knowledge of road safety among the youngest. During the conversation with the children, the rules of safe road movement were recalled. The youngest ones were made aware of the importance of wearing reflective elements, especially in the autumn and winter season, when it gets dark earlier and visibility is much worse. This unusual action brought a lot of joy and brought smiles to children's faces.

Put on a vest and lead by example

500 reflective vests were purchased by the County Office. The policemen will distribute them to pedestrians and cyclists.

The vests were handed over to the deputy chief of Parczew policemen by the chairman of the Parczewski council, Janusz Zieliński. They are marked with county signs. During patrols, officers will distribute them to pedestrians and cyclists. They will go especially to small towns where there are no bicycle paths or sidewalks.

Probably everyone has several vests like this at home. The problem is that young people are ashamed to wear them. They are afraid of being laughed at by their peers. Older people, on the other hand, tend to find themselves safe on the road. They are walking or riding their bike on the side of the road, so what harm can happen to them? Nothing could be more wrong.

The county authorities hope that people will understand that wearing a reflective vest can save our lives. "We have been repeating this action for several years. Previously, we donated the vests to schools so that teachers would distribute them to students. This time the schools are closed, so we entered into cooperation in this matter with the headquarters," says deputy starosta Adam Jaszczuk.

As he notes, the most important thing is that residents should start putting on vests. "It is getting darker and earlier, we still hear about many tragic accidents involving pedestrians and cyclists, not only in our voivodship but throughout the country. Unfortunately, the truth is that people who are walking or riding a bicycle without a vest or other reflective elements, and still dressed in black, are noticed by the car driver at the last moment when he has no chance to avoid an obstacle or slow down," adds the local government official.

What are the rules to follow when traveling in a motorhome?

Motorhome road trips are becoming essential on vacation ... But there are rules to be observed in terms of parking, permits, etc. We tell you everything!

Since the first confinement, sales of motorhomes have exploded. It must be said that it is a way to go on vacation particularly suited to the current situation. Respect for social distancing, comfort like at home, and discovery of unusual places.

But there are also specificities specific to motorhomes in terms of legislation. Which license for which motorhome? How many people can you carry onboard? But also authorized parking lots for this type of "house on wheels". We explain everything to you so that your future stay goes as smoothly as possible.

Which license to drive a motorhome?

The B license is sufficient to drive a motorhome on the condition that it weighs less than 3.5 tonnes. If your vehicle is towing a trailer weighing more than 750 kg and the weight of the motorhome and the trailer is between 3.501 tonnes and 4.250 tonnes, you will need to add the B96 training to your B license. The B96 training is done for 7 hours in driving school.

If the weight of your trailer is over 750 kg or if the weight of the trailer + the camper van exceeds 4,250 tonnes, you will need to obtain the BE permitted. Finally, if the trailer exceeds 3.5 tonnes, it will be necessary to opt for a C1E permit.

What equipment is required onboard?

In France, the mandatory equipment is the same as for a car, namely a safety triangle and a reflective vest. Be careful if you are traveling in Spain, the highway code imposes two triangles to be able to signal in both directions of traffic.

All people on board the motorhome must be able to be fitted with a seat belt. Attention to know the authorized number of people on board, it is necessary to refer to the gray card and not to the number of beds present.

When to carry out the technical control?

The technical inspection of a motorhome due before the 4 th anniversary of the first vehicle into circulation if it is new. The check must be carried out every two years for a vehicle over four years old or bought used. As for cars, a technical inspection of fewer than 6 months is necessary for the event of a sale.

Where to park with a motorhome?

Unless a municipal decree to the contrary, motorhomes can park freely in a car park and even sleep there. However, the vehicle must be in a parking space and it is forbidden to remove accessories such as a table or wheel chocks on the public highway. This would be qualified as public camping and reprehensible.

Many municipalities offer reception areas reserved for motorhomes. On these, it is possible to take out the table and chairs for the meal. Be careful, however, some municipalities only allow parking and not the "unpacking" of accessories. Still, others limit the number of nights allowed in these reception areas.

Finally, campsites, of course, which offer special pitches for motor homes and all the necessary amenities… For the price of a pitch of course! You can now travel the roads of France in full knowledge of the laws that govern the world of motorhomes...

Traffic Accident Statistics: How often do we not (not) get caught?

The use of seat belts multiplies the chance of survival. As a result of traffic accidents on roads in the Czech Republic, persons not wearing a seat belt make a significant contribution to the number of all people killed and injured every year.

In the automotive world, seat belts, as part of the car's mandatory equipment, first appeared in series production on Volvo models as early as 1959. In what was then Czechoslovakia, the use of seat belts on front seats was mandatory by law since 1967.

The aim was to drastically reduce the fatal consequences of traffic accidents. And although the development of seat belts has taken a huge step forward over the past 60 years, saving more than a million lives worldwide, the subject of their use remains very relevant. This fact is also confirmed by current statistics.

In the past two years, 80 people without a seat belt have been killed in passenger cars on Czech roads every year. Last year alone, another 146 people were seriously injured and 678 lightly injured. The share of unrestrained persons in all persons killed in passenger cars was 26% last year. In the case of severely injured 18%, in the case of minor injuries 5%.

Of the drivers killed in passenger cars in 2019, 23% were unrestrained, and 35% of passengers killed were not restrained. In the category of severely and slightly injured persons, the shares of unrestrained persons among passengers have been steadily higher for a long time.

Differences between men and women can also be traced to the consequences of accidents. Women are more responsible for the use of restraint systems, as the proportions of unrestrained women are lower in all years than the proportions of unrestrained men.

Between 2006 and 2019, 34% of men killed, and 24% of women killed were not restrained. In the category of severely injured persons, 21% of men and 15% of women were not restrained, in the category of slightly injured persons, 9% of men and 5% of women were not restrained.

During the weekends, significantly higher shares of unrestrained persons in the consequences of traffic accidents were recorded. For the entire monitored period (2006 to 2019), on average, 28% of unrestrained persons were registered on working days and 38% of unrestrained persons on weekends in traffic accidents in passenger cars.

17% of severely injured unrestrained persons were registered on working days, 22% on weekends, 6% of slightly injured persons were registered on working days, and 9% of unrestrained persons on weekends.

The highest shares of unrestrained persons in fatal car accidents were recorded in the South Bohemian and Liberec regions, while the lowest shares of unrestrained persons were recorded in the capital city of Prague and the South Moravian region.

Higher shares of unrestrained persons were registered among younger persons. With increasing age, these proportions decrease - except for exceptions (persons aged 55-64 and slightly injured persons aged 65 and over) in all categories - persons killed, severely and slightly injured.

The use of seat belts is one of the indirect indicators of road safety. Last year, 7.8% of unrestrained drivers, 10.2% of unrestrained front-seat passengers, and 15.6% of unrestrained rear-seat passengers were registered.

Violation of the obligation to wear a seat belt or wear a safety helmet while driving is the 3rd most common scoring offense. In 2019 alone, over 60,000 such meetings were registered. And it is also important to keep a reflective vest in the car.
