Cuba, Aruba, and policemen were giving out reflections on foot

Joint patrols of policemen from the highway, supported by representatives of the Foundation for Road Safety, appeared in the center of Kohlrabies. Police officers were accompanied by mascots known from the cartoon - Cuba, and Aruba. Pedestrians received reflective tape for clothing.

Activities were carried out as part of the "Safe = Visible" campaign, which was held under the honorary patronage of the President of the City of Kohlrabies. The goal of the action is to improve road safety, and above all to raise the awareness of pedestrians and cyclists about the importance of reflections when navigating roads at dusk.

After dark, a pedestrian dressed in a dark outfit is seen by the driver at a distance of about 30-40 meters. The pedestrian, wearing reflective clothing, becomes visible even from a distance of 150 meters.

We would like to remind you that from August 31, 2014, all pedestrians who move around the dusk along the way outside the built-up area must have a reflection visible to the drivers. During the "Visible - Safe" action, the police officers and representatives of the foundation encourage pedestrians to wear reflective vests also in the built-up area - even where it is not required by law. A small gadget in the form of reflective tapes on an unlit road can save a life.

Reflective elements may include items attached to clothing, headbands, vests, and leashes. It is important to place them: the reflectors are recommended to be placed at the level of the knees, hands, around the center of the chest and back - then we will be sure that they are clearly visible to other road users. These extra meters allow the driver to slow down and safely bypass the pedestrian.

The "Visible - safe" action will last all winter. During this period, the days are short, the night falls quickly, the roads are slippery, and thus there are more accidents involving pedestrians.
