In the period from 27 October to 10 November, the district service of
the police station Itzehoe will make bike checks at schools. The new head of
the District service, Police Chief Inspector Ralf Mentzel who wears reflective safety vest, announces in
advance for the following educational institutions: Sophie-Scholl-Gymnasium,
Community School on Lehmwohld, Wolfgang-Borchert-Regional School,
Kaiser-Karl-school, Auguste-Viktoria-school and Julianka School (branch of the
Community School at Lehmwohld). All follow-up appointments will be held, before
the start of school by several police officers. "With the premature
announcement of the controls we want to give all students the opportunity early
on to put their transport in a roadworthy condition", Ralf Mentzel turns
out. That the steel steeds of pupils are not always so, as required by the traffic
rules, knows how to satisfy the police officer: "In controls, we have
observed repeatedly that essential parts are missing time, it is the lack of
lighting system, sometimes there are also shortcomings to. the brakes.
"His tip to the parents of the students: "Look at the bikes of their
children exactly this can be vital for them.."
Ralf Menzel and his colleagues would have preferred if they would find
that the controlled bikes are in perfect condition. "A traffic unsafe bike
always involves danger to the user," says Ralf Mentzel, who says: "If
you drive without lights, can only be restricted by other road users, or not be
perceived and who is traveling with defective brakes, drives usually more. used
against a wall or a stationary car, than that of the functioning brakes. "
Transport for handicapped equipped, a bicycle, according to road traffic
licensing regulations if it is equipped with the following - it must have: a
spotlight, a white reflector to the front, a red rear light, a red large
reflector, a red rear reflector, a dynamo, four yellow pedal reflectors,
four-spoke reflectors or tires with reflective
fabric, two independently acting brakes (front + rear), a bright-sounding
bell.
Legally not required, but should not be underestimated in terms of
safety: the bike helmet to protect the head and the reflective clothing.
"During the bicycle helmet throughout the year should have economic, is
wearing the right reflective safety clothing especially in dark and dimly lit
a guarantee to be seen from a great distance," Ralf Mentzel highlights.
While the colleagues of Ralf Menzel have already checked several times
on the access routes to local schools, it is the first time for the
46-year-olds. Until recently, he was head of the police station Wacken. After
its dissolution, he was transferred to the police station Itzehoe and takes his
duties as head of the seven-member district service usually from the
"police shop in Holstein Center" out true.
In an attachment to the message, there is a photo of Ralf Mentzel with a
