The General Directorate of Traffic
launches in Galicia a prevention campaign against the increase in deaths due to
hitting the roads
It is a campaign of distribution of reflective
vests after, so far this year, 7 deaths have already been recorded,
half of those killed in the last year.
The sub-delegation of the Government
in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba, together with the provincial director of Traffic,
Paula Yubero and the captain of the traffic subsector of the Civil Guard,
Leovigildo Villares, distributed today reflective vests with reflective tapes to the pilgrims who were circulating
along the N-550 highway in the municipality of Valga.
Today begins this campaign to prevent
road accidents in order to raise awareness among peons and other users with
whom they live, about the importance of being seen on the road and thus ensure
that they are seen by vehicle drivers.
Of the 1,180 deaths in the interurban
roads in Spain last year, a total of 131 were pawns in this type of road. As
regards Pontevedra, the data for 2018 shows the number of 4 pedestrians who
died on the interurban road, 1 of them on the highway. There are also 2 cases
of abuse on urban roads and 2 on crossings.
Precisely, in this year, in the
interurban road, registered two fatal cases of abuse, one of them in the
municipality of Valga, where the campaign was presented as indicated by the
sub-delegation of the Government in Pontevedra, Maica Larriba.
Speaking of road safety, the Civil
Guard intercepted in the vicinity of the O Campiño industrial estate in
Pontevedra, a passenger car that traveled at 123 km/h on a stretch of track
limited to 50 km/h. The driver of the vehicle tested positive for alcohol and
drugs.
It was at dawn, the driver, 24 years
old and neighbor of Pontevedra, was detected by a radar team of the Traffic
Detachment of the Civil Guard of Pontevedra, in one of the access roads to this
polygon, at an excessive speed, 73 km/h above the legal limit.
The serious irresponsibility of this
young driver, who already only had a balance of nine points on the driver's
license, can be accompanied by the deduction of 18 points and with it the loss
of the validity of his driving license, in addition to a penalty Economic €
2,600.
