In Lviv, patrol
officers handed out reflective vests to pedestrians and drivers. Such an action
was staged on the Kiev-Chop highway - on the site where accidents most often
occur.
Pedestrians were
delighted with the gift - they will be visible in the vest in the headlights.
But the drivers were scared at first because they thought that they were being
stopped for a violation, and when they found out that the police wanted to give
reflective vests, they were happy about such an
initiative. Special clothing accessories to be visible in the dark are
inexpensive and neglected by many pedestrians, police say. And they add - vests
can be obtained free of charge at stationary posts.
"Last year,
there were 24 traffic accidents here, 9 people were injured, and one person
died. This is a high figure for such a short section of the road. The main
reason is the inattention of pedestrians," said the inspector of the
patrol police Maria Grima.
