Autumn can hide many traps

September and October may still be ideal months for picking up motorbike pleasure, but the mindset of the road situation needs to change. There is indeed less traffic on (coastal) roads, but with falling temperatures, these can be full of traps.

Due to lower temperatures, the asphalt is less heated during the day, and the adhesion of tires is correspondingly worse, with dirt, foliage and damp asphalt on parts of the road where the sun does not light up. The biggest surprise is cornering when the road is dry in one part and wet in the other and minimal grip on the asphalt. It should also be borne in mind that in the autumn the day is shorter, visibility is lower at dusk, temperatures are dropping rapidly, asphalt is cooling down and again, in this case, the grip is significantly worse.

Drivers can do the most for their safety
To pass in a good atmosphere before we put our motorcycles to sleep for the winter, it is always appropriate to always take maximum care of safety. Therefore, it should be remembered that during this time, all motorcyclists, in addition to the helmet, should also use all protective equipment (jacket with reflective fabric, pants, gloves, undercoats), always have their lights on and, if possible, wear a reflective clothing (reflective vest) to stand out on the road and be noticeable.

But by far the most useful tip is for motorcycle riders to adjust their driving speed significantly, as speed increases the likelihood of a crash and extends the braking distance. Before each ride, take a few minutes to check the engine's integrity, tire condition, and pressure. It is important that the driver never sits under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and that everyone is sufficiently alert to road conditions (roughness, sand, foliage, slippery roads).

The end of the season is conditioned by temperatures
According to safety instructor Brunet Legan, each individual decides for himself how long he will use his motorcycle in the fall. If daytime temperatures are still around 20 degrees Celsius, there will be quite a few drivers on the road when they drop to ten degrees or less, the season is more or less over.

At the same time, Legan points out that motorcyclists know how to keep track of weather forecasts and, as a rule, know what kind of traps they can wait on the roads. They must accordingly adjust and select the driving mode and the area to which they are intended to travel.
